What the Facebook Story Viewer app will do

The app takes everything the website does and adds the things a phone does better: saved profiles, alerts and saving straight to your gallery.

  • Watch public stories anonymously

Open any profile or Page with a public story and watch it without your name being added to the viewer list. No Facebook account is used.

  • Save to your gallery in one tap

Photo stories save as images and video stories as videos, straight to your phone’s gallery instead of a Downloads folder.

  • Saved profiles

Save the profiles and Pages you check often, like brands you follow or competitors you track, and open their live stories in one tap.

  • New story alerts

Get a notification when a saved profile posts a new public story, so you don’t miss it before it disappears after 24 hours.

  • Share straight from Facebook

Tap Share on a profile in the Facebook app, choose our app, and its public stories open right away. No copying and pasting links.

  • Download history

See every story you saved, when you saved it and where the file went, so you can find it again later.

  • Full-screen story player

Swipe through stories like you do on Facebook, with pause, mute and a progress bar for each story.

  • Your language

The app is planned in the same 11 languages as the website, from English and Spanish to Arabic and Hindi.

The app is in development. These are planned features, and some may change or arrive after launch.

How is the app different from the website?

The website is for quick, one-off checks: paste a link, watch, done. The app is for people who check the same profiles every day, like marketers tracking competitors or fans following a creator. Both stay free for watching and saving public stories.

Free, with an optional premium plan

Watching and saving public stories will be free in the app, the same as on the website. A premium plan is planned for people who want more out of the extra app features. What’s included and what it costs will be announced before launch, and early-access members hear first.

Anything you can do on the website today stays free on the website.

Privacy and limits

  • No Facebook login. The app never asks for your Facebook email, phone number or password.
  • Public stories only. Friends-only and custom stories can’t be opened by the app, or by anyone outside the audience the owner chose.
  • Personal use. Stories belong to the people who post them. Save them for personal reference, and ask before you repost anything.
  • Not affiliated with Meta. Facebook can change how stories work at any time, which can affect what the app is able to show. See our Disclaimer.

App FAQ

When will the app be released?
There’s no release date yet. Everyone on the early-access list gets an email the day it’s ready, before the public launch.
Which phones will it work on?
Android phones and iPhones. Tablets should work too, but the app is designed for phones first.
Is the app free?
Yes. Watching and saving public stories will be free. An optional premium plan with extra features is planned, and its details and price will be announced before launch.
Can the app show private or friends-only stories?
No. Like the website, the app only shows stories their owners set to Public. Friends-only and custom stories stay private, and any app that claims otherwise is misleading you.
Do I need a Facebook account?
No. You never log in to Facebook through the app, and it will never ask for your Facebook password.
What happens to my name and email when I join the list?
We only use them to tell you when the app is ready and to send occasional updates about it. You can ask to be removed at any time.
